Here are some ideas to aid visually-impaired participants on their expedition.

  • Make an enlarged copy of the map, to turn a 1:25000 scale into effectively a 1:12500 scale (or larger). The others in the group will still be able to relate to the symbols.

  • Prior to the expedition, ask a leader to walk the route and narrate a description onto a Dictaphone. This can then be used on the venture proper by the participant.

  • Braille and talking compasses are available (see for instance; one is available from the Oxfordshire Equipment Store.
